Wayne Euel Flowers

November 2, 1925 — July 1, 2018

Wayne Euel Flowers, 92,  passed on Sunday, July 1, 2018, with family by his side in his home.   He was born on November 2, 1925 in Plainview, Texas to John & Cleffie Flowers. He graduated Elementary School in 1939 in Savanna, Oklahoma and San Diego High School in 1946. Later He attended Chemeketa Community College, & Norm Webb’s Real Estate Broker’s Course.  He is preceded by his beloved Wife, Donna, And Daughter, Karon Berry,  Sisters:  Lois Dysart, and Wilma (Lee) Blake, and Brother: Floyd Flowers, and Nephews, Jimmy Flowers, Robert Flowers, and Fred Blake.

He is survived by his daughters Teri Gillespie (Chris), of Keizer, and Ronda Keefe (Al) of Washington. 8 Grandchildren:, Marty Lawhorn Jr., Jon (Jamie) Sands, Melissa (Dave) Mumey, Brian Keefe (Josh), Mike Keefe, Jacob (Misty) Berry, Boots Berry and Rose (Jay) Means.  3 Great-Great Grandchildren: 13 Great Grandchildren:   Kyle, Aaron, Brittnea, Haley, Christopher, Tylar Lyn, Quinn, Bella, Corbyn, Jael, Danielle, Annika, & Daisy, 3 Great-Great Grandchildren Bentley, Oliver, and Kaylie, Nieces:  Joyce Littau, OR, Peggy Gunning, Vancouver, WA, Utonna Moore, TX, Kim Braasch, CA, and Tammy Braasch, OR Nephews:  Vernon (Linda) Flowers, TX, Robin Green, TX, and Richard Dysart, AZ.

He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1946 San Diego, CA, and served in  the Merchant Marines from 1947 - 1948 ,  training in Mortar, Machinist, and Motor Mechanics.  His rank was QuarterMaster 3c on a PCE sub chaser patrol craft Escort Vessel, and on duty in the Asiatic-Pacific Area during WWII.  His duties were submarine defense with depth charges, Search & Rescue, Radar & Sonar Detection, 20 & 40 millimeter guns, 5” Canon Rocket Racks, and 1st Class Corpsman for Medical.

He married Donna Cheney on  October 8, 1948.  He was a Salesman and Department Manager for Sears & Roebuck  Company from 1949 - 1963.  He became a Real Estate Licensee in 1964, and worked for Reimann and Lucas Real Estate in Salem from 1964-1966.  He became an Associate Broker in 1966.  He was a Certified Appraiser, Urban Properties in 1967, and a Special Fee Appraiser for the Department of Veterans Affairs, State of Oregon.  He continued as an Independent Fee Appraiser specializing in residential and small acreage appraisals in Marion and Polk counties.  He opened his own office dba Wayne Flowers Realtor  in 1967 in downtown Salem, which he later co-brokered with his late beloved wife, Donna.   In 1970 he was Director of the Salem Board of Realtors, Director of the Salem Boys’ Club, an Associate member and served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers.  1971  Selected Boss of the Year,  was Vice President of Society of Real Estate Appraisers, and Chairman of the Education Committee for the Salem Board of Realtors.   1972 Chairman of Board of Directors of Salem Multiple Listing Bureau, and Vice President of the Salem Board of Realtors.  1973   he was selected President of the Salem Board of Realtors 1974   Chairman, Resolutions and Policy Committee, Oregon Association of Realtors, and Director of Oregon Association of Realtors. 1979  selected President of McNary Golf Association.

Wayne celebrated two Retirements from Real Estate.  After his first  retirement, years later he returned to his passion of Real Estate by managing McCully Realty in Woodburn, OR.   After several more years, he became the owner of McCully Realty.    He retired for the second and final time years later in order to take care of his wife, Donna.

He especially enjoyed spending quality time with each of his grandchildren whenever possible, family time, teaching his grandchildren to play golf,  & hosted many family backyard barbecues and holiday gatherings.  He enjoyed hunting (deer & elk), camping, fishing, playing cards, boating, waterskiing, and golf.  He spent many weekends dancing with his wife, and friends; and over 60 years as one of “The four couples,”  Juanita & Bob Stark, Mary & Glenn Robinson,  & Barbara & Gene Erickson.  Once a week for several years, one of the highlights of the week for him was when “the guys” (Ron McCargar, Ted Moore, Glenn Robinson, and he) would meet early in the morning for breakfast and coffee at the Keizer Senior Center. After moving to Avamere Independent Living, Keizer, in 2015, he spent his remaining years making New and Special friends, and continued playing Bean Bag Baseball after moving to Assisted Living in January of this year.

A Memorial service for Wayne will be held on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Keizer Funeral Chapel.
