Veronica A. Christie Dixon

August 23, 1924 - February 23, 2011

KEIZER - Veronica A. Dixon (Ronnie) was born on August 23, 1924, to the parents of Thomas and Anna Rupert Christie in Brooklyn, New York. She died February 23, 2011 peacefully in her own home.

She referred to herself as the "tree that grew in Brooklyn". Ronnie left her Brooklyn home during WWII to work in San Francisco, California. Of course, that is where she met her husband Wayne N. Dixon. They were married February 19, 1950, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Together they raised a family of 4 children - Thomas Dixon of Huntington Beach, California, Carol Ward of North Glenn, Colorado, Marilyn Stanley of Springfield, Oregon and Janet Spinks of Frederick, Maryland. She is also survived by her sister, Sr. Constance A. Christie RSM of Hartsdale, New York; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Ronnie taught 2nd grade at St. Walter's Catholic School in Roselle, Illinois before moving to Virginia. From Virginia, Ronnie and Wayne moved across the ocean to Belgium, back to Virginia, and finally settle in Keizer, Oregon where they happily finished their lives. Wayne preceded Ronnie in death January 1, 1998.

Remembered most about Ronnie was her spontaneous smile, quick wit, and warm encouraging words.

A Memorial will be held for Ronnie on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at St. Edwards Catholic Church, 5303 River Rd. N., Keizer, OR 97303. Rosary said at 1 in the afternoon and Mass to follow at 1:30. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to St. Edwards Catholic Church - Outreach Program.
