Timothy Kersich

February 26, 1966 — August 7, 2024

*Timothy “Tim” Kersich *

*February 26, 1966 - August 7, 2024*
Tim passed away quietly in his sleep of natural causes on August 7, 2024. He was the only son of Albert T. Kersich and Joan (LaGaly) Kersich of Billings, MT. He had a happy childhood actively participating in both
baseball and wrestling teams’ throughput his childhood into high school, receiving many athletic and scholastic awards. His real passion however was spending time in the great Montana wilderness, especially in/around Red Lodge, MT and up in the Beartooth Mountains. His love of the outdoors carried over after his
move to Oregon when he began attending Oregon State University (OSU) and joining the Delta Upsilon fraternity.

Fishing, crabbing and socializing with family and friends filled his spare time, as did his favorite outdoor activity of attending OSU football games, which began in college continuing up until his passing. His ever hopeful
football enthusiasm was contagious and never wavering (even in the lean years…). One of his many endearing qualities. You could not find a more dedicated fan, whether it be related to OSU’s academic accomplishments or for any of OSU’s athletic teams. Which, for all who knew him would attest was evident in his lifelong jabs and trash talking of the University of Oregon.

While working his way through college as a student, to cover his tuition, he began his career in the wood products industry starting at the bottom, then after graduation advanced holding multiple upper management positions within various publicly traded and privately owned corporations in both Oregon and Washington within this same industry. Ever striving to achieve profitability, to exceed previous production records, while promoting safety, teamwork, and comradery.

He settled in Salem, Oregon and in 1997 he married Catrina Kersich, who also shared his love of OSU, the outdoors, traveling, cats and Basset Hounds. Tim is preceded in death by his Mother Joan (2018) and Father Albert (2021). He is survived by Catrina Kersich (divorced), his sisters Kathleen Sommerfeld (Anthony) of Red Lodge, MT and Patricia Gilbert (Russell) of Hood River, OR. Nieces Christine, Kimberly (Tyson), nephew Stephen Sommerfeld, one great niece, and nephews Ryley (Laurel) and Lucas Gilbert.

Tim was an inclusive soul to all, never meeting a stranger, and was the best friend anyone could ask for. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. Tim let it be known he never wanted to be mourned in death but to be celebrated. A Celebration of Life is planned for October 12, 2024, from 3-5 pm at the Half Penny in Salem, OR. Please wear your favorite OSU gear and come willing to share your favorite memory of Tim.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish to donate in Tim’s memory, below are his two favorite charitable organizations, one representing his love of animals and the other his university.
