Stella was born in Albany, Oregon on May 15th, 1949. The family knew immediately that she was a special child and the state encouraged the family to place her in Fairview, which they did. In the 1970's, Stella was chosen to eventually leave Fairview, learning in a variety of foster homes how to take care of her personal needs, to cook, to clean, to budget her money and eventually had an apartment of her own. Stella graduated from the Garten Foundation in 17975. She then worked for Good Will for 18 and a half years, learning various jobs. Stella met and fell in love with Freddie Acosta and she and Freddie were married for five years. The bus drivers for the Salem Transit System were her friends; she could and did ride all around Salem with various ones; always in the seat right behind the driver. Her big brother David moved to Salem and began working for thee Transit System and life was good! Eventually Stella moved to foster homes. She had been with Rita Shepherd and her family for 21 years at the time of her death. Stella was preceded in death by her parents John and Dorothy Egleston, her brother David, and Freddie. She is survived by her sister Mildred Draegert, McMinnville, Oregon, brother William Egleston, Auburn, Washington, and several nieces and nephews.
