August 1923 - July 2017

Sophia Kinney age 93 left her family and friends on July 12, 2017 at the home of her great niece. She was surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Jerome Idaho to Philip and Dorthea Winterholler and was the 8th of 10 children. She was raised their on their family farm.
As a young woman she moved to Oregon and lived with the Shepp family near Salem. She worked for the Oregon Pulp & Paper Company in the early 40's and later worked for the Miles Linen Company. Sophia also was a school cook at Washington Grade School where her sister June and sister-in-law Arbutus worked.
She met the love of her life Eugene Kinney and they were married in Toledo Oregon on August 24th, 1946. They resided in Salem Oregon and had one child Roger Lee Kinney. Sophia enjoyed oil painting, crafting, and collecting dolls and had many friends who enjoyed playing cards and visiting. She lived on the Oregon Coast with her niece for several years then moved back to Salem. She was loved by all who knew and had a great sense of humor. With the blessed companionship of her friends in her neighborhood they were known as the "Golden Girls".
Sophia is survived by her son, Roger Lee Kinney of Madras Oregon and 3 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eugene and 9 siblings. A celebration of life will be held at a future date to be announced.
