Ruth Hanson

October 14, 1915 — October 25, 2016

Ruth was born in Amity, Oregon to Virgil Massey and Minnie May Gorsline. Ruth's two brothers, Floyd and Harold Massey preceded her in death.

Ruth graduated from Salem high school in 1933. After graduation she attended the Modern Beauty School in Salem, eventually opening her own beauty shop in Amity. Ruth met the love of her life, Hugo Hanson at a dance in Salem and they were married on May 20, 1941. In December 1941 the couple moved to Seattle where Hugo became employed at Boeing. Ruth and Hugo were involved in dancing groups in the area. Ruth also enjoyed sewing, square dancing, bowling in a league, traveling, and working as a volunteer in the Community Service Center. Ruth and Hugo opened their home to two foster children Lynn and Judy, and they always had a pet or two in their home. Hugo passed away on April 29, 1992. Ruth lived in Seattle for 69 years and in February 2010 she moved back to Salem, Oregon.

Ruth had an unconditional love for people of all ages. Her quiet demeanor and quick wit inspired everyone around her. During difficult times in her life she was courageous and strong. She would pick up the pieces and carry on, rarely complaining. When asked what is your secret to life? She replied "It is all about attitude." She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Ruth went to sleep in the Lord and we all look forward to our heavenly reunion!

Ruth is survived by her niece, Sara Massey from Federal Way, WA; her nephew, Richard Massey from Salem, Oregon, 7 great nieces and nephews, 18 great great nieces and nephews, and 6 great great great nieces and nephews.

A private family graveside service was held at Claggett Cemetery in Keizer, OR. Please visit Ruth's webpage at Keizerchapel.com to leave memories and stories.
