There came a time on the morning of January 6, 2017 that Robert (Bob) Joseph McHugh, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home.
Bob was the son of Bernard and Helen Soreghan McHugh and along with his five siblings was raised in the Sellwood District of Portland. He attended St. Agatha Grade School and Central Catholic High School, then went on to serve in the Navy. After his discharge from military service, he attended and graduated from University of Portland with a degree in accounting. Bob went on to work for the Internal Revenue Service and retired after 30 years and then opened Automated Tax Service and spent another 20 plus years in the tax preparation business.
In 1952, Bob married Maryjane Martyn and together they raised seven children. Bob led the family in his love for sports (Go Ducks!), camping, waterskiing, and just being together enjoying one another. Nothing made him happier than having all of his children, grandchildren (11), great grandchildren (2), and their families all around him. And, of course, he was never happy unless he knew his wife, Marty, was near.
Bob was a man of deep faith and even in his final days, his common request was to go to church, so it is fitting that Bob's funeral mass will be on what would have been his 90th birthday. The funeral is at 2:00, Friday, January 13, 2017 at St. Edward's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St Edward's Catholic Church Building Fund.
