Richard "Jamie" Gossett

May 14, 1952 — February 24, 2023

Richard James (Jamie) Gossett, 70, of Keizer died peacefully, February 24, 2023 after being 4 days on life support.

He was born in Long Beach, California on May 14, 1952 to Jimmy and Laura Ella Gossett, the 4th of four children.

Jamie grew up in Paramount, California, joining the service in 1970 after graduating from Paramount high school. He joined the Air Force where he served 4 years, achieving the rank of Sgt. He worked as a Navigation Bombing Tactical Trainer Specialist on Flight Simulators. After his service, he turned to his love of music and singing and played music professionally with bands that he put together, traveling the United States for the next 20 years. He also performed as a single entertainer.

Jamie met and married the love of his life and mate of 38 years in 1984. They had a daughter in 1986. Jamie started working in the Salem area in the Banking and Mortgage Loan industry in the mid 80’s. He worked for Freedom Federal, Washington Mutual, Guild Mortgage and the last place he hung his shingle was with Mortgage First in Salem, where he worked with a wonderful team of people. Jamie was active in the communities that he lived in. He managed the last FarmFest in Woodburn and built a large wooden cow and tractor for the event. They were put out to pasture in a Woodburn field off of I-5 and were visible when driving by. He belonged to the local Kiwanis and served his community with a smile whenever he could. He was known for his one-liners and corny jokes. Sometimes he even had a good one and he didn’t mind the attention it brought him. Good or not. Jamie had just found out that he was to be a grandpa for the first time and was very excited. He will be a grandpa from Heaven and he left a wonderful legacy for any future generation in the family.

Everyone who knew Jamie knew that he loved people and would do anything he could if they needed something. He loved working in his yard and enjoying his handiwork from his deck with a glass of iced tea or a cold beer. He was a wonderful husband, dad and friend. He enjoyed camping, fishing and working outdoors. He was good at most things he attempted. He was a sneaky pool hustler and was good at bowling. He enjoyed playing some golf and being outdoors. Jamie served on the worship team at Dayspring Fellowship for many years while his wife Marilyn served in Women’s Ministry. They loved serving at their church.

Survivors include his wife Marilyn, daughter Lauren (Matthew) White of Brooks, sister Glynda Wright of Woodburn and brother Ron Gossett of Athol, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his father Jimmy Gossett, his mother Laura Gossett and his sister, Lynda Wright of Rancho Cucamonga, CA.

The family plans to have a Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date. We will put out an
announcement and hope to see our friends and family at that time.
