Ora Garver
Ora Garver September 11, 1920 - April 29, 2010
SALEM - Ora was the second son of 5 children of Levi and Susie (Plank) Garver. He moved to Oregon as a young teen with his parents. As a young man he met Katie Jones and they were married in November 1943. In 1952 they moved to the Bethel community where lived there until 2006 before moving to Salem. He loved to help people in need. He and Katie were weekend parents for out of state students at Western Mennonite School. Twice he spent 3 months in Navajoa, Mexico helping at a Bible school. He mentored children at Englewood Grade School and was involved in the Angel Tree program for 18 years. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels for about 20 years.
Ora is survived by his children: Mary Cannady, Milly Garver, Dan Garver, Dwayne Garver, Joseph Garver and Kathy Plourd, 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Mary Christner and Gertie Hostetler. He would often say "Don't complain about going to work every day, because it is a privilege".
Visitation will held from 10am till service time.. Service will be held at 11am Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Western Mennonite Church in Salem Oregon.
