Nina Charlene Edmiston was known to all as "Charlie". She was a resident of Salem for a number of years. She moved around after she and Husband Bill retired in 2001. At the time of retirement, they lived in Redmond, OR. Later in 2002 Charlie and Bill moved to the "Big Island" of Hawaii, and had a home in the Hawaiian Paradise Park for 5 years. Then it was on to Las Vegas, NV, and in 2013 returned to live in Salem.
Charlie was a receptionist and clerical worker. Her last employment was with Fairview Training Center in the physical medicine department. Her hobbies included her pets, sewing, watercolor painting, and traveling. To keep from being a "Band Widow" on weekends, she joined the Oregon Defense Force Pipe Band as a Tenor Drummer. Her husband was a Bagpiper in the Band, and the band participated in numerous parades around the state every summer. On out of state performances, the pipe band visited Estes Park, Colorado, Aberdeen Scotland, and Stone Mountain, Georgia. Charlie greatly enjoyed her family; the main reason for returning to Salem was to be near to her children and grandchildren.
Charlie is preceded in death by her brother Roland Smith.
Charlie is survived by her husband William "Bill" Edmiston, daughter Heather Archer (Steve) Neff, son Joseph T. (Cheryl) Archer, step-sons Robert (Nancy) Edmiston and Scott Edmiston. Charlie is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
