Surrounded by family, on November 29, 2011, Nan surrendered her life after an extended illness. She was born and raised in Crawford, GA to Richard and Beautell Payton. At the age of 15 she met and married John R. Vierra, who was in the U.S. Army and stationed at the Army Ordinance Depot in Atlanta. They were married June 28, 1950 and were happly married for 61 years. Nan followed John to Austria, Germany and other locations in the states, where he was stationed, finally settling in Keizer in 1964. She was the loving and nurturing mother of seven children, four of whom preceded her in death.
She loved spending time with her three surviving daughters and their families, playing Bingo and visting the casino. She especially loved the last three years at the Vierra Family Reunions with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Nan is survived by her husband John of Keizer, sisters Martha Sexton, Jeannie Parker and brother Sonny Payton all living in Georgia, daughters Chris Phipps (Jim) of Keizer, Pattie Toepfer of Salem and Cindy Smith (Dave) of Salem, 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Keizer Funeral Chapel on Saturday, December 3, 2011 followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Private interment will be held at Willamette National Cemetary on Monday, December 5, 2011.
