Melvin Herd

Melvin L. Herd Jr. was born on November 9, 1942 in Pryor, Oklahoma to Melvin and Carrie Herd. They soon found their way to Eugene, Oregon where Melvin Jr. graduated from North Eugene High School. It was in Eugene where Melvin met the love of his life Ollie Ford. They later wed In Eugene on May 24, 1964. Melvin served his country in the U.S. Army from 1964-1966 just missing the Vietnam War. After the military Melvin went onto Nursing School at Chemeketa Community College. Melvin worked as a nurse for the Marion county health department and the Oregon Youth Authority.

Melvin was predceded in death by his mother Carrie Francis Griffith and brothers John and Jerry Herd.

Melvin is survived by his spouse Ollie Herd, sister Arlene Griffith, brother William Griffith, and brother George Griffith.
