Leroy Ernest "Ernie" Horsley peacefully passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, of natural causes. He was lovingly surrounded by his family. He was born April 6, 1938, in Salem, Oregon, to Lee Roy Horsley and Laura Amelia Fuller Horsley.
Ernie grew up in the Keizer/Salem area and graduated from North Salem High School in 1956. He joined the Air Force in 1961, and was stationed at George Air Force Base in Victorville, California. He was honorably discharged in December 1965. From there, Ernie moved his then growing family to the Macleay area, before settling in Keizer, Oregon in 1966. Ernie worked as a Correctional Officer for 25 years at the Oregon State Penitentiary, before retiring in 1991.
Ernie was a founding member of the St. Edward Catholic Church in Keizer in 1967, and a founding member of the St. Edward's Knights of Columbus in the early 1980s.
Ernie has been a Lions' member for 35 years and held several leadership roles. He was an active volunteer in his church, the Lions Clubs and the Keizer Community Library for many years. Giving back to others was an important part of his life.
