Kevin passed away in his sleep after a valiant fight against ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis aka Lou Gehrig Disease). He was born in Pendleton, Oregon to Osia and Victor Compton. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, (Marlene), favorite daughter (Nichole Black), adored and cherished grandchildren (Isabella and Tyler Black), Brother and Sister-in-law (Barry and Emma Compton), many treasured Nieces and Nephews and Honey Boy Blue (Little One).
In August of 2015 Kevin was diagnosed with ALS. The disease rapidly progressed in his case and he battled it with fortitude and grace. He had one of his fingernails painted blue each week to help raise awareness for ALS. He also insisted on having his beloved Boston Terrier, Honey Boy Blue, get his same fingernail painted blue to match. He deeply appreciated all of his wonderful caregivers and enjoyed sharing his life experiences and sense of humor with them.
Kevin was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Friend and well known in the community. He volunteered a great deal of his time to the Marion County Sheriff's Department and received recognition from Marion County with the "Volunteer of the Year" award several times over as well as the "Volunteer of the Year" award from the State of Oregon. Kevin will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. He will be remembered frequently, considered often, and loved always, with his quick wit and wisdom echoing in our ears.
Kevin's Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 1pm at the Grace Community Church, 4105 Lancaster Dr NE, Salem, OR 97305. In lieu of flowers, Kevin would be delighted to have donations made to The Oregon and SW Washington Chapter of The ALS Association. Arrangements are by Keizer Funeral Chapel.
