Karl was born in Chicago, IL to Rose Freer Krause and Herman Arno Krause on June 7, 1947. They moved to Portland, OR when he was still an infant.
Karl graduated from Clackamas High School in 1965, from there he went to the Culinary Institute of America on the East Coast where he graduated in 1968. He spent the next 20 years working in resorts in Sunriver,OR , Sun Valley, ID, Angel Fire, NM and ended up in Cannon Beach, OR where he met and married his wife Penny Krause.
They moved to Salem OR in 1993 where he was the executive chef of The Inn at Orchard Heights. After retirement Karl still enjoyed cooking for his family, spending time with his grandchildren and gardening.
He is survived by his wife Penny, his daughters Hollie Blake, Lacie Gordon, and Amie Anderson. His grandchildren Teagan Goodwin, Andie Blake and Mason Gordon all of Keizer, OR. His brother Richard and Joyce Krause of Phoenix, AZ and nieces Melissa Krause Cherrier and Holly Krause Browner both of Phoenix, AZ.
A private Celebration of LIfe will be held in Manzanita, OR.
