Joseph “Joe” William Antel was born to John and Gizella Antel on September 24,1947 in Cleveland, Ohio. He grew up in Parma, Ohio and thus began his love of all Ohio sports teams, mainly the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns. In 1970 Joe was drafted into the Vietnam War, leaving behind a newly pregnant wife, Charlotte. While away, his first child was born, a daughter, Carrie Ann. When he returned he began working for Ohio Bell. In 1978 Joe moved to Salem, Oregon to join the new phone company out west. Along with his second wife, Freddi they welcomed a daughter, Jessie. In 1982 his first son, Joey Jr. was born.
Joe was an avid bowler and softball player. He loved steam trains and all things Hungarian. In 1988 Joe finally met the love of his life, C.J. She had three sons, Toby, J.J, & Noah. The two were married in 1990. Joe’s favorite days were Sundays spent at his mother’s house with all of his family, eating the best Hungarian food around and in later years hosting holidays with his kids and grandkids. He loved to make his friends and family laugh with his sarcastic wit and hilarious expressions. Joe passed away following a massive stroke on February 12, 2021.
He is survived by his wife, C.J., brother John Antel (Rosemary), sister Jan Burney, children, Carrie Yildiz, Jessie Young (Ben), Toby Padilla (Jessie), J.J. Padilla (Jaclyn), Joey Antel, Noah Padilla (Danielle), grandkids, Samantha Hawkins, Hannah & Hayley Wood, Bailey & Jordon Padilla,
Riley & Harper Padilla, Keanna & Nick Young, niece, Kim Martovitz and nephews, John & David Antel.
