John Leslie Kerndt

John L Kerndt passed away, October 4, 2016 at the age of 74 at Chehalum Nursing & Rehab Facility in Newberg, Oregon.

John was born in Los Angelos, California on August 30, 1942 to Arthur and Joan Kerndt. Upon completion of Arvada High School in 1960 John enlisted in the US Navy on June 30, 1960. He was stationed in California (1960), Texas (1961) Tennessee (1962) California (1963) Mississippi (1966), Washington (1970) Guam (1973) and Washington (1976-1982) upon his retirement from the US Navy.
John was award numerous metals and letters of Certificates and Appreciation. He was awarded Good Conduct Award, Navy Achievement Metal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service medal, and Navy Unit Campaign Medal. John retired from NAS Whidbey Island, Oak Harbor, WA in July 1980 from VA-52 as Senior Chief Petty Officer receiving the NAVY ACHIEVEMENT MEDAL for SENIOR CHIEF AVIATION MAINTENANCE ADMINISTRATIONMAN UNITED STATES NAVY.

John Kerndt received his Associates of Arts degree from Meridian Junior College, Meridian, Mississippi in May, 1972 upon retirement from the US Navy he received is Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Washington University in December, 1982. He worked for several companies primarily in manufacturing in quality control and management within Oregon, Michigan, and Washington until his retirement in 2003.

John was proceeded in death by his Mother (Joan), Father (Arthur), Brothers (Charlie & Ken Kerndt).
Survivors include two brothers (Art & Tony) and one sister (Liz) of Colorado. He is survived by one Son Dave (Wendy) Kerndt of Keizer, Oregon and one daughter Elaine Smith of Everett, Washington.
He is survived by four grandchildren Ashley & Jon Kevin Smith of Corinth, Mississippi and Austin and Keith Kerndt of Keizer, Oregon.

He enjoyed fishing, hiking, traveling, golfing and hanging out at Camper's Hideaway on Lake Merwin with friends looking at Mount St Helens.
