JOHN LEMERY HENNY
John Lemery Henny, 70, of Salem, Oregon, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2015 in the care of Hospice. John was born on September 20, 1944 in Salem, OR to Frank and Irene (Lemery) Henny. He graduated from Gervais High School in 1962 and attended Oregon State University was a member of Phi Kappa Theta. John married Sanda Langley from Grand Ronde, OR.
John and Sanda lived in Brooks where they worked the family business and raised their two children, a son Adam and a daughter Sarah (Harvey). John was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and active in the Knights of Columbus. John was a proud fan of the children's athletics at Gervais Union High School for many years.
John and his brother Frank Henny Jr. and father Frank Henny, Sr. worked together at the family nursery business for 30 years, Frank Henny & Sons Nursery in Brooks until his retirement in 1997. He enjoyed working the farm where he grew up and raising his family in the country just a few miles from the business.
John enjoyed jazz music, Harley Davidson bike rides, his steam engine collection, camping & boating trips at Detroit Lake and time traveling with his wife before her passing in 2012. In the last few years John spent a great deal of time with his immediate family, which he enjoyed immensely. John enjoyed political debates to which he would voice his conservative values and was never short of a story to be told or a lesson to be learned. He enjoyed Mariner's baseball and Oregon State Athletics.
He is survived by his son Adam and daughter in-law Julie Henny of Beaverton and daughter Sarah and son in-law Michael Harvey of Keizer. John's pride and joy was his four grandchildren, Genevieve Henny, John Lemery Henny II, Jordan Harvey and Evan Harvey. John is also survived by his sisters, Alexine Rice (Missouri) and Julianne Durrell (Washington), and his brother Frank Henny, Jr. (Oregon).
A celebration of life will be held Monday, April 27, 2015 Keizer Funeral Chapel at 4365 River Rd. at 11:00 AM, with a reception to follow. John's final resting place will be with his wife Sanda at the Holmes Family Cemetery on Spirit Mountain in Grand Ronde, OR.
