Joan was born December 11, 1943 in Portland, Oregon to Dean and Geneva Eskridge. O May 9, 2016 she passed peacefully at her home in Salem, Oregon after a courageous battle with a chronic illness.
Joan's competitive spirit and determination to always succeed has served her well: from participating as a member of the girls high school basketball team in Fairfield, Idaho that never lost a single game from 1958 - 1962; to achieving the highest rank academically in her graduation class and giving the Valedictorian address; gaining top honors as a rodeo queen; and becoming as expert tax preparer and bookkeeper. Joan married Arthur Roland Boozer with whom she lived for 41 years until his death in 2003. Together the followed their dreams; raised their family; at one point owning their own business; and devoted their lives to their family and animals.
The feel of natural fibers through her fingers always brought Joan great pleasure even from a young age. Joan's embroidery was always beautifully executed with precision and skill. Joan eventually began raising sheep and Angora goats for their wool. Joan the prepared the wool and spun it into yarn that she would weave into beautiful heirloom wool blankets that now keep her family warm. It was important to Joan that she touched every piece from the beginning to the end.
Joan had many other loves: she enjoyed each of her dogs, raising and riding horses, reading a good book, collecting and shooting guns, studying ancient civilizations, travel and family history. In 2004 Joan joined the Four Seasons Club where she met and later married Larry R. Benson. Together they enjoyed another of Joan's loves, playing cards.
Joan is survived by her loving and caring husband of 9 years, Larry Benson, who stood by her through it all;her mother Geneva Eskridge; a daughter Tami and her husband Doug Hughes; a son Bret and his wife Julie Boozer; two brothers Wayne and his wife Rosemary Wickowski Eskridge and Thomas and his wife Linda Eskridge; a sister Debra and her husband Michael Otterstein; and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
