James Stephen Smith

April 1, 1957 — February 2, 2023

James Stephen Smith peacefully passed from this life to the next on February 2, 2023. “Jimmy” was born in Salem, Oregon, on April 1, 1957, and was the youngest of five children born to Albert and Mary Smith. Perhaps it was his birthdate that led him to develop a joyful sense of humor enjoyed by his family and friends. Jimmy was proceeded in death by both his parents and two of his siblings, Bob and Mary Anne, and Geri DeBeck, the love of his life. He is survived by his brother, Joe Smith of Waikoloa Village, Hawaii, and sister, Peggy McDowell of Albany, Oregon, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
“Jim” graduated from North Salem High School and received an associates degree from Mount Hood Community College. A life-long Oregon resident, he enjoyed fishing at the coast and on many of its streams. Although he held other jobs, Jim preferred being a bass guitarist and played with many Oregon bands including Hey Mac, Mikado, Ty Curtis Band, Riven, Sal and the Salamanders, Oscar Frog’s Barrel O Monkeys, Tongue and Groove, and 45th Fret Band as well as others.
A Celebration of Jim’s life will be held at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Keizer, Oregon, on February 24, 2023, at 2 pm. Please see the announcement of this open event that Joe Smith posted on Facebook.
