Frieda Pauline Whitmore

May 26, 1921 — February 12, 2017

Frieda P. Whitmore passed away Sunday, February 12, 2017. Her daughter Linda and granddaughter Kristine were with her.

Frieda Pauline Smith was born May 26, 1921 in Johnson City, Illinois to Barbara (Garrett) and Theodore Smith. Frieda was the oldest of three daughters. The family moved to Princeton, Kentucky where at age 21 Frieda met and married Bill H. Whitmore on December 23, 1941, they resided in Kansas City until Bill joined the Navy and Frieda returned to Kentucky to be with family. On September 1942 Frieda and Bill became parents when their first daughter was born; their second daughter was born in 1947. The family moved to Oregon in 1957. Frieda was a homemaker until Bill passed away in 1975, she then worked at the Falls City Library and later as a clerk at the Polk County Courthouse in Dallas until her retirement.

Frieda moved to Silvercreek Assisted living and Memory Care, eventually being confined to a wheelchair. In the spring and summer of 2016 she was thriving and enjoyed many of the activities offered at Silvercreek. The facility made it possible for her to visit Mo's in Lincoln City with her daughter and friend. Silvercreek also made it possible for Frieda's family to enjoy lunches and holiday diners with her.

Frieda enjoyed a special relationship with Leighton and they began interacting from the time Leighton was around 2. Leighton enjoyed great Granny and always had hugs, kisses, pictures, cookies, and candy for her. One of their favorite things was walking to McDonald's, where Leighton would help push her in her wheelchair. Many afternoons were spent having lunch and/or ice cream on the patio at McDonald's. They brought tons of happiness to each other.

Frieda left us with lots of memories to comfort us. She will be dearly missed.

Frieda was preceded in death by her husband Bill, mother and father, two sisters, and a great grandson.

Frieda is survived by her daughters Barbara Bauer and Linda Crisp; grandchildren Matt, Lucinda, Carrie and Nancy (Barbara's Children), Doug and Kristine (Linda's children), and 8 great grand children. Frieda is also survived by her friends; Leighton and her nana Pam, Wendy, Alan and Maryellen, Dave and Marilyn, and the staff at Silvercreek Assisted Living and Memory Care.
