KEIZER - Fredrick Eugene Ackom, 75, of Keizer, OR went to be with the Lord on July 13th, 2017. He was surrounded by his loving family at the Tokarski Hospice House in Salem, OR. He was born in Van Wert, Ohio on October 25th 1941 to Gerald and Ruth Ackom; he spent most of his life in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. Fred is survived by his wife Diane of 55 years, daughters Lesa Vietzke, Juli and Brent Highberger, Jennifer
Johnson, brother Barry Ackom, seven grandchildren, and an extended, loving family. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Shirley Miller. Fred was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to all. He proudly served 28 ½ years as a State Police Trooper, detective, polygraph examiner and coordinator for the State of Oregon. Additionally, he served on Governor Robert's Security Force as well as aboard the U.S.S. Coral Sea in the Navy. As a young man, Fred excelled at sports; some of his accomplishments include Captain of his High School football team his senior year, the West Coast Division Boxing Champion in the Navy, and earning a brown belt in karate.
Above anything else, Fred adored spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a passionate advocate for ALL children, helping AT RISK youth and volunteering with the Special Needs Olympics.
Fred's memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 29th at 2:00 pm at St. John's Lutheran Church 1350 Court Street NE Salem, OR 97301. A reception will follow the service.
