Frank Healy Milmore passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 19th, 2019. He was 76 years of age. Born to Dr. Benno Karl and Marsha Anna Milmore in Atlanta, Georgia, September 3, 1943, Frank was the second of four children. His formative years were spent in Bethesda, Maryland where he developed a passion for classical music, literature, and a love for the outdoors and fishing.
Frank graduated from Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda in 1961. Shortly after this the family moved west to the San Francisco Bay Area of California. Frank lived with his maternal grandparents whom he dearly loved while attending College of Marin and San Francisco State College to study Music. He was drafted into the Army in 1964, serving three years honorably before his retirement in 1967 due to an injury sustained while on active duty in Korea. Frank later moved to Seattle where he attended the University of Washington, obtaining his Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1969. One year later he enrolled at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon to study Law and later obtained his Teaching Certificate from Oregon College of Education.
While living in Salem, he met his future wife, Kiriaki Koutis. They were married in 1971 and had three sons before divorcing in 1979. Despite the divorce, Frank stayed in the Salem area and continued to be active in the lives of his three boys. He was an attentive father and passed on an appreciation of gardening, the outdoors, and fishing to his sons. He worked for the United States Postal Service from 1976 until his retirement in 1996 and held a number of positions during this time. While at the Postal Service he met his second wife, Laurel Blakeley, whom he married in 1990. He later legally adopted her son, Jeremiah, thus completing the family.
Upon his retirement from the Postal Service, Frank enjoyed traveling with Laurel to various locations, especially the Oregon coast, and trips to California to visit Frank's dad in Kensington. They were sure to visit every post office along the way as they shared a mutual respect for the organization where they found their beginnings. After their divorce in 2007, Frank spent more time volunteering in various organizations.
Frank was very attentive to his father during his father's latter years, faithfully making the trip from Keizer, Oregon to Kensington, California several times a year. He thoroughly enjoyed their time together as they would share long conversations on a variety of topics including gardening, the outdoors, classical music and opera, literature, investing, and politics. He was accompanied on most trips to California by one of his trusted Dachshund's. He enjoyed the companionship of several Dachshund's over the years, including Happy, Herman, Muffin, Colossus, Dora, and Sammy. After the passing of his father in 2016, Frank lamented on the deep loss and sense of loneliness he felt. A deeply generous man, Frank contributed regularly to various organizations including the Salvation Army, Boys & Girls Club, Boy Scouts of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and several Christian churches and organizations. Many evenings, he could be found at the local Starbucks enjoying coffee and a cigar while reading a good book.
He is preceded in death by his parents and second wife; survived by sister Marsha Leake, brother Donald Milmore, sister Maxine Schreiner, nephew David James, niece Kathleen Leake (Tim), and sons Arthur (Joanne), Benno (Amber), Daniel (Laura), Jeremiah (Shonda), 9 grand-children, a great-granddaughter, and Dachshund Sammy. A private service was held at Willamette National Cemetery to celebrate and honor his life.
