Delores "Dee" June (Thurston) Sullivan
June 3, 1929 - February 2, 2012
SALEM -Delores (Thurston) Sullivan was born 82 years ago in Scio, Oregon to Harold and Grace Thurston. She went to Newport High School where she met James Sullivan, her high school sweetheart, whom she later married. Dee and Jim both worked at the Stateman Journal. They enjoyed several vacations together to Hawaii and Mexico. They celebrated 62 years of marriage before his passing in October 2010.
Dee loved animals, shopping, and staying fashionable. She never wanted to "dress like an old lady." Family trips and vacations to the Oregon Coast were always highlights for Dee. She stayed up-to-date by texting with her children and grandchildren. Although she missed her husband and companion, Dee continued living independently in their Keizer home of 53 years.
Survivors include her son, David Sullivan of Tucson, Arizona; daughter, Diane (Sullivan) Taylor of Gladstone; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren and counting. She was preceded in death by her son, Daniel; her only sibling Betty (Thurston) Andersen; and her husband, Jim.
A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, February 20, 2012 at Salem Evangelical Church, 455 Locust Street NE, Salem. Memorials may be made in Dee's honor to Salem Friends of Felines,
