Clifford Francis Saxton was born January 23, 1930 in Pierre, South Dakota and passed away April 22, 2016 in McMinnville. He was preceded in death by his wife LaRene Cross Saxton and brothers Phil and Alvin.
In 1937 the family moved to Portland and Cliff's dad owned a grocery store
on Union Avenue while building homes in the NE Portland area.
Graduating from Jefferson High in 1948, Cliff had the honor of playing in the first Oregon Shrine All-star Football Game. An aII American football player of Linfield College he Married LaRene and graduated from college in 1952. He began a teaching and football coaching career at Shedd High School, followed by Siuslaw, North Bend, and McNary High Schools. He completed his 32 year education career as athletic director Sprague High School.
Cliff was known as a man of integrity who impacted the lives of many, young and old, who had the pleasure of knowing him as a family man, coach, teacher, friend and colleague.
Always active, Clifford sold real estate, played golf, fished the Alsea River, boated in the San Juan Islands, and traveled to Mexico and Arizona.
He is survived by his brother, Richard (Karen). daughter Gayle Toft (Mick), son Rob (Toni) and five grandchildren.
