Barney was born in Reubens, Idaho and joined a family of two sisters and three brothers. He was valedictorian of his high school in 1940 and he was 18 when he joined the Army. He farmed with his brothers in Reubens until he went on to complete his college education at the University of Idaho in the early 1950s.
He is survived by three children; Bill (Alicia) Webb of Honolulu, Bobbe Priddy of Salem, and Ted (Deb) Steinke of Keizer. He had 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom kept in contact with him.
Barney was an avid golfer, playing 3 times a week prior to the onset of his illness at 91 years of age. He participated in various activities in the community where he lived and he was loved by everyone.
