Bonnie Elaine Moon

June 2, 1923 — August 21, 2013

Bonnie Elaine Anderson Moon was born June 2, 1923 in Lewiston, Utah to Christine and Oscar Anderson. She and her family moved to Richmond, Utah where she grew up. She was the youngest of 5 children. Her father worked as a brick mason and the family would travel to some of his projects throughout the states of Utah and Idaho. They would spend the time camping and this was a very enjoyable time for Bonnie. She graduated from North Cache High School in Richmond, Utah in 1941. On March 25, 1942, Bonnie married Arthur 'LaVor' Moon from Smithfield, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In March of 1943, her son Larry was born. In April of 1943 LaVor was drafted and was sent to India during World War II. This left Bonnie to care for her newborn son with the help of her family. In October of 1947, her second son Richard was born. In August of 1955, her daughter Debra was born. During her time in Richmond, Bonnie enjoyed gardening, playing in a bridge group and doing activities with friends and families. She formed lifelong friendships in Richmond. In 1965, LaVor and Bonnie decided to relocate to Salem, Oregon for a wonderful job opportunity for the family. They built their house in 1967 and again Bonnie got to work creating beautiful flower gardens. Bonnie was a wonderful seamstress and was a talented artist. In Salem, she became involved in bridge groups, enjoyed golfing, dancing and traveling. She again developed lifelong friendships with special friends and enjoyed being with them. She and LaVor were able to travel to many countries. One special trip was to Sweden where she was able to meet some relatives. She and LaVor enjoyed many trips to Kauai, Hawaii which was a favorite spot for them. LaVor passed away in August of 1986 after a 10 month battle with cancer. This was a very difficult time for Bonnie but Bonnie continued to keep very busy. She was very proud of her work with Retired Affairs, a part of the military in Salem. She worked diligently for many years with this program. She continued to paint until this past year and enjoyed it very much. The family wishes to thank all those involved in Bonnie's care, especially the wonderful people at Cedar Village Memory Care and Serenity Hospice for the loving, wonderful care you gave to Bonnie during her final journey. Bonnie is survived by her children Larry Moon (Barbara) in Oklahoma; Richard Moon (Kay) in Arizona; Debra Koller (Craig) in Oregon and former daughter-in-law Marie Moon (Oregon). She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren (predeceased by her great grandson David) and 4 great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, LaVor, a stillborn daughter, her brothers Dean and Don Anderson and her sisters Dorothy Sparrow and Margaret Read. We know she is having a wonderful reunion with her husband, family and all of her friends who have gone before her. We love you Mom! A Graveside Service was held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland on Friday, August 23, 2013.
