Albert Alexander “Alex” Ray was born in Austin Texas, on
December 17th, 1956 to Pauline Ellen King (Ray) Schnitzler and
Jesse Willard Ray.
Alex was married to Pamela Sue Ray on January 17th, 2004 in
Myrtle Creek, Oregon. They created a blended family of their
children, Christopher Dunning and his wife Lorinda, Jennifer
Harvey and her husband Richard, and James Dunning and his wife
Ashley; their three grandchildren Rachael Harvey, Micah Dunning,
and Emma Dunning; and many siblings and extended family
members. Many have commented on the beauty of the
seamlessness of the blending of their families.
Alex was a graduate of Freed-Hardeman University, with his
bachelor’s in Bible, and served as a full time minister in San Diego
and Red Bluff California. He also served as the interim minister for
the Garden Valley church of Christ on two occasions. However,
Alex’s greatest ministry was the continual kindness, humor, and
love he shared with his friends, neighbors, and family.
Together, Alex and Pam served for three years teaching english and
hospitality management in China, building lifelong relationships
with students and their fellow teachers.
Alex was a gifted musician, singer, storyteller, and “fib-ricator”. He
was known to utilize these gifts for the enjoyment of everyone who
knew him, as well as the sharing of his faith in Jesus the Christ.
According to his grandson, Alex was the funniest man in the
world, a title he wore with honor.
There would be no end to the stories his family could tell with fond
remembrance, and no number of pages which could adequately
share their love and admiration for Alex.
Alex passed on June 11th, 2023, at Salem Hospital having spent the
day with his children, grandchildren, and wife. It was a good day.
