Obituary for Junior H. Asche

Junior H. Asche
Junior went to be with his Savior in heaven on August 6th.

Junior was born on February 19, 1922 in Albany Oregon to Herman and Lydia Asche. Junior lived and worked on the family farm in Albany until he was 14 years old, when the family sold that farm and moved to Toledo Oregon.
Junior continued farming until he graduated from Toledo High School in 1940. He then became a millwright at the sawmill in Toledo. He joined the U.S. Army in 1942. He was a member of the 104th Infantry Division-Timberwolves. Junior served in Europe during WWII, where "they got the job done." He returned to millwrighting in Toledo and Portland.
Junior married Margueritte King (Robinette) in 1955. They had two daughters. In 1969 the family moved Anchorage Alaska where he worked for the City of Anchorage Parks and Recreation. He maintained all the ice rinks during the winter months and the golf course in the summer, as well as the city greenhouses.
Junior loved the outdoors and while in Alaska, he and his family enjoyed fishing, clamdigging, camping, skiing, snowmobiling and gardening. While living in the caretakers house on the golf course, they had a large garden and many beautiful flowers. They gave tours of their gardens to many tour buses during the summer months.
Junior's wife, Margueritte, passed away in 1991.
He married Ruth Waring in 1992. They lived in Siletz and Corvallis, where he continued his gardening. Ruth passed away in 2012.
Junior loved his Lord and family. He enjoyed telling stories of his childhood and "the old days," as well as reminiscing of Alaska.
Junior is preceded in death by his parents, brother Clarence, sisters Margaret and Arlene.
Junior is survived by daughters Marla Kontak (Roger), Deborah Asche, stepdaughters Sandra Ricker, Donna Vanderberg (Robert), stepchildren Barton Waring, Steve Waring (Joyce), Ted Waring (Nancy), Judy Smith (Bill) and Merrrily Shirey.
He is survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are being made by Keizer Funeral Chapel. Service will be at St. John's Lutheran Church 1350 Court Street NE Salem, on Friday August 11th at 10:30am. Memorials can be made to St. John's Church.
